The Purple Fields of Whitby

Have you seen them yet??

It’s not every day you see something so striking that you have to stop and soak it all in. But just on the outskirts of Whitby, something truly magical is happening — fields bursting into bloom with vibrant purple linseed.

The lilac-hued waves of colour are causing quite a stir locally, and it’s easy to see (and smell!) why. As I stood at the edge of the field, camera in hand, I was completely caught up in the moment.

Phacelia isn’t just beautiful — it’s been grown for centuries for its oil and fibre, but when in bloom, it puts on a spectacular seasonal display. These fields near Whitby have transformed the area, offering the perfect backdrop for the local countryside.

Whitby has so many hidden gems like this, and this particular scene reminds me how lucky we are to be surrounded by such natural beauty.
