It’s no secret that our world is more connected than ever. Whether it’s LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, or even dating apps, having a great portrait photo has become an essential part of how we present ourselves online. And I'm finding it's people of all generations that are embracing the idea of professional portraits designed for their social media profiles.

I’ve recently had the joy of doing two of these - they’re fun, creative, and a brilliant way to express your personality in a relaxed, natural environment. Gone are the days of stiff, overly formal headshots — today’s portraits are about showing the real you. That's all me, exactly how I want to take photographs of people!

Why are social media portraits so popular right now?

  • First impressions matter. Your profile photo is often the first thing people see when they come across you online. A professional image can help you stand out instantly.

  • They’re personal. You can choose a setting that reflects your lifestyle or brand — whether that’s in nature, a coffee shop, your workspace, or somewhere meaningful to you.

  • Confidence boost. There’s something empowering about having images that make you feel great about yourself.

But what’s exciting is that these sessions aren’t only for twenty-somethings with TikTok accounts (although that's what I've been doing it for too!). I’ve photographed clients of all ages who simply want to refresh their online presence — from professionals rebranding their business, to people updating their social media photo so family and friends can see them at their best.

A great way forward

As more people recognise the value of an authentic, professional portrait, I see this becoming a bigger part of my photography work. It’s a chance to capture personality, warmth, and individuality — and to create images that you’ll be proud to share across any platform.

If you’ve been thinking about updating your profile picture (and maybe avoiding using that holiday snap from five years ago 😉), a social media portrait session might be exactly what you need. It’s quick, relaxed, and all about you.

Message me to book your session and let’s create something you’ll love to share.
