A Surprise Proposal in Whitby – Texas to Yorkshire! 💍📸

There’s something rather special about being trusted to capture a moment that only two people know is about to happen… and this was my 6th surprise proposal! 💍

This time, my lovely couple had travelled all the way from Texas to Whitby, making their trip to Yorkshire even more memorable.

Dakota had carefully planned the surprise, choosing the beautiful St Mary’s Church in Whitby as the place to ask the all-important question. My job was to be in the right place, ready with my camera, and most importantly… not give the game away! 😂📸

And then came that magical moment…

She said YES! ❤️

Once the secret was out, we headed off for a little Whitby Wander, making our way down the famous 199 Steps, before continuing onto the beach and along the pier.

It was such a lovely way capturing those natural, happy moments of them enjoying being newly engaged and taking in the beautiful Whitby surroundings. And what a place to get engaged!

I absolutely love photographing surprise proposals because it's not just about capturing the moment someone gets down on one knee. It's about everything around it too — the nerves beforehand, the reaction, the laughter, the hugs and the celebrations that follow.

Whitby, North Yorkshire, with its historic streets, St Mary’s Church, famous 199 Steps, beach, harbour and pier, gives you so many beautiful options for a surprise proposal and engagement photography.

Having couples travel all the way from Texas to Whitby to create this memory makes me appreciate even more what a special little corner of Yorkshire we have here.
